Act lll scene l

Romeo and Juliet

Challenge when trying to portray mercutio was trying to figure out what emotions to show and when to show them. The reason for this is because in the scene there are many things that my character figures out like that his best friend loves someone that is a capulet. so he has to acted shocked then he needs to be angry because Romeo is accusing him of not being loyal to him. And also when he fights tybalt he must be angry becuase he's getting into a duel. then lasty he has to feel bitter becuase he loses the dual and he's going to die. and as he's about to die he puts a curse on the two households. So to include all those where really challenging.

I really enjoyed the play, because it was based on real events that happened and it was important in America's history. And also it was a one person play. So other than the one character actually onstage but played more than one role. She was amazing, in the way she was able to switch from different characters voices. And example of what I mean like when  she would portray she was more like hunched over and plant a lot and had a harder time voice. And then when she switched to the mother she was more proper she sit up straight shoulders  back and her voice was nice and calm.  Then when she was the kid you know she acted like she liked talked childish and wasn't like well educated with her words and was just like funny.   I like the plot of the play a lot because it really gave me a sense of what African-Americans had to go through in these certain areas, more importantly like down south how racist people were so segregated. It's horrible to think that that was only 50 years ago. It's not like we haven't beeen without slavery for hundreds of years it's somthing that most grandparents probably remember.  It's crazy to think that white people wouldn't allow African-Americans to just be associated with the kids, it's more importantly they wouldn't even let them go to school together. And because of this white people.among us much better education than that African-Americans because the more likely is that most the time and more money to spend and to send them to better schools.  Overall To conclude I really enjoyed this play and it was a real eye-opener and I enjoy it enjoyed it and I want to go to another play based off of that time period because it's just somthing that we as students aren't educated a lot on now a days.

when I was doing research on the play, what I found was that will be taking place in the rock Arkansas during a time where segregation was a main factor in black peoples lives.  The play is going to be about a girl who will be attending a all white school.  This is unheard of and she is the first one, the first black woman to attend the school. She will be facing a lot of verbal and  physical abuse from white females and males. The story will be picked up by major news outlets and her story will be told.  During this whole thing she still goes to this weights all even if she gets bullied and it's called the N-word every time she goes and at the first day of school there's a riot and her mom barely make it a lot .  The N-word is used a lot in this play  to make sure that the audience understands how degrading and how he makes people feel human, and it gives the white people power over  blacks.

When I watch the video one thing that I think well was memorizing my lines, the reason for this is because it is really challenging to do. And also I thought I would mess up because  I was nervous, so I thought I would forget them. But because I used the strategy of recording myself and listening to it over and over again I was prepared for when I had a brain fart. Another thing I thought I did good was playing  the role of Mercutio.  One thing that I could've improved on was showing more emotion. At times I would say my lines with the same facial expression's and the same tone of voice. I think that I should have changed up my voice soft and sadder tone when I get stabbed by Tybalt.  Also maybe I should've been more confident all saying it like when I first speak and my honesty is being questioned.  Things that came easy to me during this was being able to know when my lines were up I knew when to say what and when it would be after who. Another thing that came  easy was being able to memorize where to go and stand like the blocking of scene.  Things that were hard for me where I was the memorizing your lines but another thing was being able to portray Mercutio because he is so many different emotions in the beginning is a confident but as it goes on at sadder depressed.  So it is hard to make sure all those emotions come out and play.  Overall I had to grade  myself out of ten  I would give me a eight. Reason for this is because I knew all my alarms I knew what emotions I had to portray and when I need to portray them. I could have improved on making those emotions come out and making the audience know that though he said oh he's happy now.   I think that as a group we adapted almost all of our Literary features.  One of them that we did well was foreshadowing. The reason why I think you did this one pretty well is because right before the fight scene I have a big line, in that I say " Kings of cats and one of her nine lives.... I will plug is from the ears and make it eight" when I say this I'm saying I'm going to kill the other 8 lives he has because he is a cat. Other one that I think we did really good this imagery. I think we set the stage while in the audience could understand and picture this fight scene in there heads.

I really enjoyed the fall play surprisingly because i was a little skeptical at first because I have never been to a play before but i liked it. I love the story, how its a big family that always have a christmas party every year. I could connect to it because my family always throws a party and i don't know how to really explain it but it just felt like I was there and it was maybe like some of the party that my grandparents threw. The character I felt did the best job was the one that David Mathason did. Its because he just fits the role perfectly because thats almost like how he dresses in school you always see him with his shirt untucked and his tie all lose.  The singing was a interesting touch because I think that each song almost told a different story like the one that Sam Weed sang about the boy that she once new. Her emotions really came out and it was really great to watch. And it was a good way to break up the play. I will be trying to go to more plays becuase its different I'm use to going to a football game or baseball and after a while it gets boring and it starts to get repetitive and it was a really nice change of pace. Also I give a lot more respect to actors becuase they all memorized all of there lines, I had a lot of trouble memorizing mine and i maybe had like a tenth of what they had.

Performance log

I was having some trouble memorizing my lines. So a way to fix this problem was I recorded me saying the lines and then had it playing on a loop over and over again. I would listen to this for like 15 minutes take a break then go back on and 15 minutes. As a result the next time we performed are seeing in class I knew the lines by heart.   The reason why I think that this helps me is because when you're on the stage the only thing you have is the voice in your head. So by training yourself to always be hearing your lines in your head, when you get flustered that's what you go back to.  Also I had to figure out a way to be more emotional,  The reason for this is because my character Mercutio has a lot of mixed emotions during the scene, he has to be angry, he has to feel betrayed, and finally he needs to feel sad. So a way to channel my emotions to reflect those.  I had to do something different because I wasn't tapping into them. So I looked up a couple of ideas on the Internet and I found one. It was to think of a memory that reflected that scene or emotion in that play. So when I felt the trade I thought of a time when I actually did feel the trade in real life .  And when I did that I found out that it actually worked, I was surprised. And as a result of me doing this the play fell more realistic and not staged.  Another thing I had to add was I needed to use my hands because when we were just practicing I had my hands in my pockets and I was just saying saying the lines. So when I am angry I will push someone or like nudge them on the shoulder that being either Romeo or table. If I'm sad maybe I'll shrug my shoulders and bring my hands and more to show that I'm vulnerable.  At the end when I have to curse the two houses the Capulets in the Montagues I have my hands out in their fisted to resemble me being angry and the hatred towards Romeo because he killed me he led me to believe that everything was OK and it really wasn't.   Another thing that I had a perfect was the blocking of our play so in the beginning of the play I will be with Romeo and will be on one side until be on the other. But as I'm saying my lines also I saw her walking to Tybalt in Romeo slightly move back. And then when we're about to fight we will be facing each other closest possible.  Romeo during the whole thing is almost laying back he's taking a step back he doesn't really want to be involved. But as the play continues as our scene digresses he slowly starts getting into stuff in at the end when they fight when he finally flights table you see that he is not being a coward anymore he is Romeo the prince of Verona.

Performance log 2

On Monday we really over exaggerated the two swords fights we have because last week when we did them they were almost like playful fights. So we really focused on making sure that we really were like in a sword fight and by doing this it made the play more realistic.

On Tuesday we went over the play a couple more times and we added some things here and there to make it feel believable like when jack was mad he would push veronica bucks jack is Tybalt and he needs to act strong. I really slowed down my lines because i was rushing them and went i did it it was better overall. Also you could understand it more.

On Thursday all we did was try to remember our lines because jack wasn't in class. The way i learned them was by writing them over and over again.
